Training Options For Domestic Staff

table

Published on November 9, 2020

Do you know what training options there are for domestic staff? Many more than you might think! Training is a great way to invest in your staff. It does not mean someone is doing something wrong, or badly. It simply means you want to give them the confidence to be able to learn even more things. to develop further. And to build in confidence too.

If you are working in a domestic household yourself, investing in training options can really open lots of doors. So find out all the options now!

Why Do Domestic Staff Training?

There are many reasons you should consider doing training. Whether that is you getting training for your staff. Or you undertaking and investing in training yourself.

A first thing to remember is that doing training does not mean you are bad at something. Quite to the contrary. Training is an excellent way to develop yourself and your skills further. It gives you confidence and can really give you a newfound love for your job.

Stay up to date

Every industry changes. So even if you have been doing the same domestic staff job for many years. Training is a vital way to stay on top of any industry changes. And you would be surprised how many new things you will learn. It is a great opportunity the review the ways you are doing tasks now. And how you perhaps can do them more efficiently, for example.

Build your confidence

Another great reason why training is a great thing to do. Is that is provides you with a safe space to practice new skills. The last thing you want to do is make loads of mistakes in your actual jobs. And especially when working as domestic staff. Chances are that you re working with expensive items and delicate materials. So there is very little room for mistakes!

This is where training comes in. During a training course, you can practise new skills over and over again. And it does not matter how many times you do it wrong! You are there to learn. And learning comes from practice. So without having to worry about who you may upset. You will be able to make all the mistakes in your training course. So that once you are done, you are fully ready to nail all your new skills in your actual job.

In-Person Domestic Staff Training

So a first option for training is actual in-person training. This would mean you and a trainer would physically meet either at a training venue or your work/chosen space. You would then go through all the training options under the mindful eye of the trainer. They would be there to correct you, encourage you. and showcase any skills that you need to go over.

In-person training can either be in groups or private training. The good thing about a group training course is that it is more cost-effective than personalised 1-1 training. But it depends on what you need. And what you want to get out of the training. Perhaps you have very specific skills you need to learn. Or they need to be applied in the household you work at. Then a tailor-made training course might be much more beneficial. As you will get exactly the training modules that are right for you.

Online Domestic Staff Training

A second option to consider is online training. Online training can be a great alternative when in-person training is not available. But besides that, it is a great standalone option to consider too. Online training nowadays offers a great alternative for in-person training. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. Or wherever else you are in the world.

You completely control the timeline too. Unlike in-person training, you can stop and restart the training as often as you like. If you want, or need to, take a break for a week. You can do that. And simply pick up where you left it the last time. There are many interactive elements to online training too. From videos showcasing skills, to quizzes and assignments that will be graded by professional trainers. With online training, it gives you our your staff more freedom to undertake training courses. And it is more budget-friendly than an in-person training course, too.

Hello Barry, what an exciting time for you both! As a domestic couple, you want to ideally have similar experience and/or skills in the most popular domestic staff roles that can make up domestic couples. Here you can think of housekeeping, childcare/nanny roles, gardeners, handymen, chauffeurs (this could come in handy with your background!)and chef/cook, to just name a few! It can be challenging getting into the industry with no experience in these, so it would be worth looking into getting some specific domestic staff training courses done to build up your CV and knowledge already from there. Do have a look at our wide selection of training courses on our website here, particularly the housekeeping, House Management and even etiquette ones. It will give you a much better idea as well of what it could be like working as a domestic couple too! Good luck in your journey 🙂
