For new and aspiring butlers the world of butlering can be quite overwhelming, so we’ve asked one of our experienced butlers for a little bit of advice. Be sure to add your additional questions in the comments section below and one of our professionals will help you find an answer.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to become a Butler?
Research initially what a Butler does, what a Butler can do and why they want to go into the industry. Then look for training accordingly – somebody who can train you for their experience and then look to be placed into a private household afterwards.

What should you look for when deciding what kind of job to apply for?
I’d ask that Butler actually what their strengths are, and what their likes and their dislikes are to understand what position they actually want to go into. Do you want to be in a formal environment, an informal environment, you want to be driving fast cars constantly, you want to traveling, for example?
There’s, obviously, very different aspects of the job as what suits different people. Are they single, are they married, do they have families? So obviously each individual family is different to what the Butler’s needs would be, and the Butler must accordingly fit into that environment.
