Are you considering signing up for an online e-learning course? If it is the first time you have ever done an online e-learning course, it can be difficult to know if it is for you. Will you find an online e-learning course hard? Or will it be right for you? The good thing is, online training really can be right for everybody. Follow these tips below to make the best out of any online e-learning course. And you will not find it hard at all to get through any online training!
Discipline
A first way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to get disciplined. You will need this discipline, as you are now in charge of the course.
During in-person training, you simply follow the training as set out by your instructor or trainer. You will be guided through the modules. Practise when the trainer tells you to. And complete assessments accordingly. All this is different when you do an online e-learning course. You will need to motivate yourself. Stay focused. And not get distracted. To complete the course, and get the most out of it.
Now, this does not have to be a negative thing. Everyone can get disciplined with the right preparation and mindset. Know why you are doing this online training course. Did your employer ask you to do it? Then you want to definitely do well! Are you doing this in the hope of finding a better or new job? Then the course can mean a better future! Whatever your reason is for doing online training, let it be your focus. And your motivation. Stay disciplined, and think about the positive outcomes this completed course can have for you!
Be Organised
A second way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to be organised. This will help you with discipline, too. As mentioned previously, there will be no trainer there to keep you focused. Or to organise the course for you. So put the following things in place to be organised, and you will not find an online e-learning course hard at all!
Schedule In Study Time
What can be really helpful, is to schedule in blocks of study time. You can do this for the week, for the month, or even the full duration of the course. Simply mark out a block in your diary for when you will be studying. This will help you to not book any other appointments at that time. But it will also help you to get into a routine. Once you see the block in your diary, you know that is what you will be doing. Rather than last minute trying to fit it into your day.
Have A Dedicated Study Space
Where you study, can have a big influence on how hard you find the online e-learning course, too. Do you get easily distracted? Then make sure to not study in a busy cafe, for example. Or in any other space where there will be lots of other people. And make sure to create a designated study space. This does not mean you have to go spend lots of money on a fancy desk. But it does mean having an area, however small, that is specifically for work and study. Somewhere you can sit comfortably but actively. Not on a couch or on your bed, for example. Even if it is a small corner of your table, that will be enough.
Switch Off Distractions
Another way to not find your online e-learning course hard is to switch off any distractions. Can you switch your phone off during the time you study? And the television that might be on in the background? If you would do an in-person course, you would not have your phone next to you either! We get so used to doing so many things at the same time. But it can really limit productivity. So when you study, just do that. And leave any other tasks, or distractions, for after study hours.
Set Realistic Timelines
Finally, a final important way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to be realistic in the timelines you are setting for yourself. Are your really going to be able to finish this course in two days? And even if you physically would be able to fit all that time in. Did you really learn enough from it? Give yourself enough time, but also don’t leave too many gaps. You will get the most out of a course if you consistently stick to it for a number of days or weeks.
The great thing about online courses is that you can schedule in your own time. So you can perfectly work it around your busy schedule. But once you start the course, you do not want to lose momentum. Try not to leave too many long gaps between training sessions. As it might just result in you having to go back over previously completed modules. As you can’t remember them anymore!
Finally, make sure the blocks you schedule for training are realistic. Will you really still be able to focus after 6 hours of non-stop training behind your computer? Equally so, just scheduling in 30 minutes will not get you anywhere either. You need at least an hour, or more, to fully get into the swing of the course.
Of course, on some days you might be able to do more than others. But make sure you schedule your time cleverly, so you can make the most out of our e-learning course.
