How To Be a Faster Housekeeper

Being a housekeeper can be a great job, but it can also be quite physically tiring. Especially if you are working in a large household, or if you work in several houses per day or week, you can really benefit from knowing how to work faster. And being a faster housekeeper does not necessarily mean speed. It mostly means smart working. And knowing what things to put in place (and to take out) for things to go better.

So what do you need to do to become a faster housekeeper?

Plan & Organise

The first thing you want to look at when becoming a faster housekeeper is what your schedule and plan looks like. You should have a cleaning and housekeeping schedule for every house you work in. If you work in just one household you should too. No matter how big or small the house is, without having a plan and a tick list to stick to you will not only miss tasks but also take longer in things that do not have to take long.

When you start working in a new household, the first thing you do is make a housekeeping schedule. Note down every room and area in the house – inside and out. Then make a list of all the daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly tasks that need to happen. Make sure you list the daily tasks first so this will be handy for your overview.

This way you can every day, week, month, etc just tick off your to-do list you have created. It will make you work much more efficiently and as such make you a much faster housekeeper. You will find that with a schedule, you know exactly when what needs to happen. You might have wasted so much time in the past doing tasks that didn’t need to be done yet for another week or so.

Having a schedule will give you an overview, and you can plan your day ahead. You will know exactly when you will need to do what so you can make sure the areas are clear for you to clean, all your equipment is ready and your cleaning products are ready to go.

Having the right Equipment and Cleaning Products

How up to date is your cleaning equipment? Are you aware of the new product on the market and are you using the rights products, tools, and equipment for the job? Having the wrong item can seriously slow down your cleaning and housekeeping process.

Modern-day technology has done a lot in the development and improvement of household equipment, such as vacuum cleaners. A good vacuum cleaner will be light, so you can carry it around very easily. That will already make your work a lot faster. It will also have the best suction technology, making sure to do its job thoroughly, quickly and effectively on all surfaces. This will again save you so much time cutting the vacuum cleaning tasks much shorter than before!

Also using the right cloths, sponges, scrubbers, etc for the right material can save you a lot of time and make you a much faster housekeeper. Using the right cleaning product and material straight away will save you time having to redo things, and will effectively target stains and make sure the area is properly cleaned.

It is really worth it spending some time learning about what the best new equipment out there is, what the best and most efficient cleaning products to use for which material. It will make your job so much easier!

Team Up

Sometimes, it does not matter how fast or effective you are in your housekeeping job. It might just simply be that the job at hand is not suited for only one person. Many larger households will have more than one housekeeper because one person simply would not be able to stay on top of everything that is needed.

Trying to do a job on your own that is meant for more than one person, will never go well. You will exhaust yourself trying to get everything done. Your employer will get frustrated and disappointed because things will be forgotten or task unfinished. If you really think the job is a two-person job, make a plan and chat to your employer about this to see what can be done!

Invest in Training

All the above-mentioned things are great and handy tips to make you and to be a faster housekeeper. But to really fast track you to become faster in your job, investing in training is an amazing and very effective thing to do. A good housekeeping training course will offer lots of hands-on practice in a small group setting. You simply do not learn to become a better housekeeper by reading a module about it, you need to get stuck in! A good housekeeping training programme will teach you the best cleaning and housekeeping techniques, as well as lessons about equipment and products used – and so much more!

Even if you have been a housekeeper for many years, you will learn so much from doing a housekeeping training course and you will come out of it loving your job and being able to provide even more outstanding housekeeping services.
