You might love the heat and the summer. But sometimes too much can drive you insane! So if you cannot find a cool, fresh space to cool off from the heat, it can be really stressful. Especially if you have (young) children, pets, or are working from home a lot.

It is of vital importance to keep your house cool and fresh. And there are several ways to do this.

No Lights

Lights let off a lot of heat. And do you really need all those lights on, especially during the day? Make a habit of switching lights on only when you really need them, on the very hot days. It will make a big difference temperature-wise.

Go Low on Tech

Similarly to lights, all technology you have on in your house will give off lots of heat. So be a little more critical on how much you really need to have on at the same time. Do all your devices have to be switched on and plugged in at the same time? The fewer items you have on or plugged in, the cooler it will be.

Close Shutters

This is a trick learned from Mediterranean countries – they know what they are doing when it comes to heat! Although it might seem tempting to open all windows and doors – you are letting in a lot of heat. Try to keep your blinds and curtains closed during the day. It will stop your home from turning into a greenhouse!

Housekeeping Tip 2: The Bedroom

Sleeping in heat can be extremely challenging, if not impossible. And losing sleeping is not something anyone wants to do

Ice Fan

Do you know that you can get even more use out of your fan? If you put a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan, the air will catch this and blow out lovely cool air! It might just make the bit of difference you need.

Freeze Your Sheets

If you struggle to fall asleep in a hot bed, try putting your sheets in a sealable freezer bag, and pop them in the freezer just for several minutes. Before you go to bed, take them out and your bed will feel lovely and cool.

Cotton only

What material is your bedding? You might love satin or silk sheets, but when it comes to the heat, cotton really is the best material to keep you cool. A cotton sheet of a light colour will feel a little cooler than satin or silk variants.
