During our time at the London Yacht & Prestige Car Show we met some amazing attendees. Eamonn Holmes stopped by for a quick chat about luxury living and domestic help.

As an accomplished journalist, Eamonn has seen it all and it was nice to hear his take on domestic staff and luxury living.

When it comes to living the luxury lifestyle, with all the money in the world, you’re biggest restriction is time. After all, what good is having a lot of money if you don’t have any free time to enjoy it?

Time is one of our most valuable assets and if you are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, one way to have more free time is to have people around you to do the things you don’t want to do. Daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, or even looking after the kids can all be done by professionals, leaving you with the free time to do what you please.

British Butlers and Domestic Staff Training

In the 70’s and 80’s the term “servent” had a very negative connotation, but now the position of a butler or other domestic helper is highly sought after by many. British butlers and domestic staff are in particular demand because they are the quintessential helper – the silver standard.

In fact, professional British staff travel around the world to work for foreign principals. Local and foreign domestic help employers will work with agencies like Polo & Tweed to help with the training of their staff. Sometimes a client will want their butler to learn a new skill or just sharpen their skills in a particular area such as silver service and a training course will do just that.

What Domestic Helper Would You Choose?

It’s a difficult question for those of us who do not hire domestic help, but Eamonn was excited at the thought of having a personal chef. A personal chef would ensure you’re eating the right types of healthy food and help you watch your calorie intake, all professionally made. Imagine waking up in the morning and having breakfast served!

Eamonn, thinking more about domestic help then said, “Having said that, I wouldn’t mind also having a driver to take me around.”

While domestic helpers aren’t for everyone, these services are not limited solely to the incredibly wealthy. Many families today are hiring part time nannies or cleaners to help them around the house, so they can have more of that most valuable asset: time.
