Candidate of the Month March: Marlene
We are very proud to present Marlene to you as our candidate for the month of March. Marlene is a hardworking, and experienced Nanny who has worked in private residences with many high-profile clients. Here are some of her quality tips for anyone starting, or working in the domestic staff industry.
What was your first ever job in the domestic industry?
It was a long-term nanny position, taking care of 2 children. I loved this job as they were such a lovely family! This job made me realise working in the domestic industry was a great fit for me.
What do you love about your job?
I love working in childcare and folowing the development milestones. Getting to watch them grow up, taking them for walks,to activities and dropping them to school. I do a few housekeeping tasks where I have been developing my organisational skills. It gives me the end fulfilment when the house is organised, tidy and clean.
Any advice for people looking to enter the industry?
Be ready go the extra mile to meet the employers expectation. Always be polite, kind-mannered to everyone, and treat everyone with respect. You have got to be open minded and patient when taking care of children, as they may need a different approach compared to a different child.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
In 5 years time, I see myself working long term for a family that appreciates my hard work and commitment. I want to remain working in childcare and help families that need it! I find it very fulfilling to see them happy and reaching their goals.
What is your advice for anyone working with an agency like Polo & Tweed?
When working with Polo & Tweed I suggest you always remain professional, and be clear when communicating your preferences and experience. I found that the more information you can provide them, the better suited the jobs were that they sent to me.
Any top tips for your job?
Being a Nanny requires a lot of hard work and commitment. When you see the child reach each milestone, it is highly rewarding and makes your time worthwhile. Be organised, professional and friendly always. It is so important that you keep the parents in the loop at all times. You have to work as a team!
