Candidate of the month December: Avril
We are so excited for Avril to be candidate of the month. As a highly professional and committed Housekeeper with a wonderful personality, we couldn’t think of anyone better to close this series for the year.
What was your first ever job in the domestic industry?
My housekeeping career started back in 2017 at a spectacular 12-bedroom home in Hampshire. I felt very uncertain of my career choice as I had previously come from an agricultural career since college. I felt very lucky that this family in Hampshire gave me a chance. It gave me the opportunity to show how adaptable I was and thrived in the opportunities they gave me as I furthered my career there.
What do you love about your job?
For me, the best part of the job is always seeing my employer happy and helping them manage their homes. I love the sense of accomplishment I feel after finishing housekeeping tasks to a high standard.
Any advice for people looking to enter the industry?
If you’re results-driven, organised, have a keen eye for detail and are hard working then you should have no problem starting off in the industry. Just spend a little time finding the correct people to work for. And make sure you don’t rush into any decisions just because the salary is better. As it doesn’t always work out!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I am hoping to still be with the same employer, as I feel long-term commitment is key to a good working environment and the relationship you have with them.
What is your advice for any candidate working with an agency like Polo & Tweed?
Just be yourself!
Any top tips for your job?
Never feel any question is too little to ask, if you are ever unsure of something just ask. Good communication is a must. And finally, never assume!
