Are you not sure if you can hire a gardener for the day? You most certainly can! Even if you do not need a gardener for a full day, but just for a couple of hours, this is possible too. Keep reading to understand how to hire a gardener for the day, as well as any other things you should think about.

How To Hire a Gardener for the Day

If you know you want to hire a gardener for the day, you might not know where to start. Finding any tradesperson for the day who is experienced and reliable can be a challenge. Equally so, it can be extremely time-consuming to try and find someone suitable if you do not have the network.

Because even though someone might just be working for you for several hours – you want to make sure it is the right person. Someone without the right skills and experience will not do the job to your satisfaction. So then you would not only be wasting your money but also your time. As you will have to start the whole process again!

A quick and efficient way to find a temporary gardener like this is to use an agency. Agencies will have a selection of gardeners ready to go for any temporary or short term jobs in your area. So they can simply find the right match for you, and book them in.

You can of course also try and use your own local network of people to aks around for a gardener. This can be effective, but risky. What worked for one person might not work for you. Also, will you vet and check this gardener before he starts his work? As a good agency will have done that already, with everyone on their books!

Typical Gardening Jobs For The Day

Have you never hired a gardener for the day, or for one project? It can be a great thing to do if you just need one or two things done you cannot get around to.

It can be as simple as cutting the grass. Who would not like the idea of your garden nicely trimmed and cleared of all weeds? That is a perfect job a gardener can do for you in a day or half a day. It will depend on your space. But the most popular tasks for temporary gardeners are indeed things like mowing, clearing up, trimming and planting new plants and flowers.

Perhaps you need trees cut down, or wood chopping? Or you want to get your garden ready for a party, event, or a new season. With every new season coming, your garden will need to be prepped and made ready. So this could also be a perfect task for a gardener to do!

Other Things To Consider

What you need to remember when hiring a gardener, even for a short period of time. Is that you are not just paying for the hours worked, but also the experience, expertise and skill they bring. As any tradesperson, a gardener will have a minimum charge for smaller jobs. When the job is a full day’s job, say, 8 hours, they might charge an hourly rate.

However, for short jobs like this is it very common for gardeners to charge a flat rate for the job as a whole. Make sure you are very clear on exactly what is it you need to be done. So that the gardener can give you a fair estimate of hours worked, and the accompanying, suited rate for that too.

A final thing you want to clarify is whether the gardener needs to bring their own equipment, or if you can provide this. Again, your gardener will be able to advise on what they will need. You might have enough tools they can use for the job you want them to do. But it is definitely useful checking. As you never know exactly what they might need, or prefer to use. Make sure you either have the suitable tools available. Otherwise your gardener can probably bring the tools, or hire them, needed for the job.
