Are you looking to find a job as a maid? Whether you have been in the industry for a long time, or if you are new, it can be challenging to know where to start. There are different routes you can take to look and apply for jobs. Not all options will be suited for you, either. But once you know what the different routes are, and when you are really clear on what the job means, you can find the right job as a maid for you.
What Does It Mean To Be A Maid?
You might be surprised to see the word ‘maid’. Or maybe this is the description you have always used for your job. Simply put, a maid is just a different word for a housekeeper. A maid could be considered to be a slightly more old fashioned word. It also is used more in some countries than others. But it covers all of the same tasks and responsibilities a housekeeper would.
Understand The Variety of Tasks
So knowing that a maid is the same role as a housekeeper, are you exactly clear on what that means? Because many people consider maids and housekeepers to be cleaners. But they are so much more than that! Besides all the cleaning duties in the house, you will be doing many other tasks, too. The tasks of a maid can be extremely varied, and no two days will be the same. One day you may be shopping, cooking or doing food prep. The next day you might be running errands, picking the children up and looking after the kids too. Or maybe you are in charge of wardrobe management, packing and unpacking suitcases, as well as laundry, shoe, and garment care.
You very much are ‘keeping up’ the house, and everything that comes with it. You need to be able to enjoy cleaning, as well as organising, with a keen eye for detail. Finally, you should take pride in being organised, keeping things tidy and making things run smoothly. And enjoy working in a family or private household setting, where things can change instantly and you need to be able to be flexible.
How To Find a Job as a Maid
There are several ways you can start looking for a new job as a maid. Not all options are right or right for you. Some routes seem more complex, but end up actually finding you a better job. It’s important to know all the different routes you can take, to make sure you find the best option for you.
Use Your Connections
If you have connections in the industry, this might be a handy way for you to find out about new jobs. When you use your network, it can connect you to jobs that were not advertised yet. However, you need to remain critical of the jobs you are applying for. Because when you go for a job as a maid which came recommended, you still need to understand if the role is suited for you. Just because you know the person recommending the role, does not mean it automatically suits you too. So always make sure you get a full job spec and do a trial where possible to fully understand the job.
Go Online
A second route to finding a new job is to go online. You can find plenty of job websites which are free. Here people will be posting roles or collecting CVs. Don’t forget about social media platforms like Facebook that have dedicated special groups to specific job searches or job alerts in your area or sector. If you upload your CV to a public platform, make sure you do not have too much personal information on it. If you are speaking or in contact with someone directly, then of course you want to make sure they can reach you. But you do not have to put your full address, for example, on your public CV!
Use An Agency
A final, and very effective way to find a job as a maid is to use an agency. This really is the safest, most efficient and most straightforward option to use. An agency will be very helpful and be able to help you through the whole process. They can advise on which jobs to apply for, and give you much-needed interview tips too. An agency will take all the stress out of the process for you, which can be worth a lot!
How Much Can You Earn?
Salaries can be very different depending on the area and type of job. Live in and live out salaries can differ again, too. Every role is different, with different requirements, and therefore different salaries.
