Do you know how to spot a bad online training course? With online training becoming more and more popular. It can be difficult to distinguish between reputable training providers. And those who will not give you any value for money at all. Whether you have done many online training courses before, or if you are new in this area. It can be quite tricky to spot a bad online training course. So follow our guide here to help you make sense of it all.
There Is No Clear Website
Let’s start with a first, and perhaps quite an obvious one: there is no website. You would be surprised – but it does happen! There are, unfortunately, dodgy training providers who advertise fake, or extremely limited, training courses without actually having an academy or company website. This is a major red flag and you should instantly walk away when you cannot find a website.
Chances are the online training course is a scam to make you part from your money. Rather than getting you a training course. In this day and age, every online training provider will have a website. The website should be able to provide you with all the information you need about their online courses. Including prices of the course. If you cannot find any of this: find another training provider.
You Cannot Contact The Training Provider
So perhaps you have found an online course that looks and sounds really good. There might be a nice video or website that you have watched or read. The modules might sound great to you, as well as the price. So far, so good. But you might have some questions about the training course. Or you might not know if it is exactly the right type of course for you. So you try to call the company – no response. You try to get through them over email – no reply.
Again, a big red flag! Even though an online training provider might not have a physical office you can visit – there should always be someone available to speak to you, or answer question you have over email. If you cannot get through at all, and get no replies to any emails or messages you have sent, it is time to look for a different online training course.
There Are No/Only Negative Reviews
Now, only reviews can be a tricky subject. It is quite common that people who have a positive experience are less likely to leave a review. In comparison to someone who had a bad experience, for whatever reason. There are a lot of ‘keyboard warriors’ out there, who get joy from leaving negative reviews for companies without even having tried their services. So do take negative reviews with a pinch of salt.
However, if the company has no reviews at all, or only extremely negative ones, you might want to question this. If you are unsure, do contact the training provider. They should be able to put your mind at ease. Perhaps they can explain any issues you might be worried about. However, if you see a constant stream of only negative reviews, you might want to question things.
