Do you find yourself running out of time when it comes to cleaning the house? We all know those annoying but necessary household chores that will just be left and left. Until you really cannot look past them anymore! So when you have a little more time on your hands, plan these in. Your house will feel so much cleaner and organised for it!
So what are these annoying household chores you should be doing?
Clean the Fridge
How often do you really clean the fridge? And not just the quick wipe over the outside door. We mean a real, good deep clean. It probably is about time if you can’t remember the last time you did it! But once a month really should be the time. Cleaning the fridge means taking everything out, and giving it a very good clean. There are so many food and drink leftovers that can spill in the fridge so keeping it very clean is extremely important for hygiene.
Whilst you are cleaning out the fridge, also have a good look through everything that is in there. Should you be throwing some items away that are out of date? Now is the perfect time to get on top of that all.
Re-organise your larder
You might have a larder, you might have kitchen cupboards where you store all produce, pots and pans, etc. If you find yourself with a little more time on your hand, this is a great and very satisfying task to do. It can be time-consuming, that’s why it can be considered as one of the most annoying household chores. But so worth it! Make sure you work cupboard by cupboard, not all in one go. Don’t be shy and go all out: remove everything from the cupboard and clean the inside well. Then have a look at the items you took out. Should some be thrown away? Cleaned, or stored differently?
When you re-stack your shelves or cupboard, have a thin about which items you use regularly throughout the day and week. make sure they are now pleased within easy reach. So no more reaching through the back of the cupboard after this!
Flip Your Mattress
Did you know you should regularly turn and flip over your mattress? Even if you are using the best sheets and mattress toppers, your mattress will still get dirty from you sleeping on it every night. So it needs to be refreshed!
Whilst you are turning it, make sure to give it a good vacuum clean as well – lots of dust will collect here that you might not be able to see. And don’t forget to do the same underneath the bed – as you might not normally be able t reach under here.
Organise your Wardrobe
Organising your wardrobe will be one of the most satisfying chores you will do. It will make your day to day life so much easier and quicker! Firstly, take everything out and give the inside of your wardrobe a good clean. Yes, this needs cleaning too! Secondly, look at any items of clothing that you haven’t worn for longer than 6 months. Does it have great sentimental value? Consider keeping it. Did you forgot you even had it? Get rid of it!
Besides this, organise your wardrobe when you put everything back in. If you have the space, you might want to make a winter and summer wardrobe. If everything will be in one place, make sure you organise by item. All trousers in one place, shirts in another place, etc. If you want to really go all out, then organise them by colour too. It will look extremely organised – and it will be so easy to find the clothing item you are looking for from now.
Clean the Bins
Putting the bins out itself is really not enough. Weekly, if not possible then at least bi-weekly, should you be doing the chores of cleaning the bins. You can do this outside and use a large bucket to mix hot water and soap, to then use this to clean the inside and outside of the bin.
Make sure you are using soap and warm water as you want to get rid of any bacteria and germs that might have been accumulating there. This definitely is a very annoying chore to do but so necessary to keep everything hygienic and clean. If you are not convinced yet, read this interesting government report about rubbish and its relation to bacteria.
Clean the Cutlery Drawer
Another one of those annoying household chores you might not even think about. But considering this is probably an area you open and close multiple times a day, lots of germs and bacteria can build up very quickly here. Even if your cutlery is sparkling clean – if you are putting it in a dirty drawer it defeats the purpose!
So save yourself time in double cleaning, by giving your cutlery drawer a good clean. Most of the cutlery drawers can be removed from the actual drawer. If this is possible – do so, so you can give it a very good scrub all around. If you cannot take it out, make sure you have emptied the drawer completely and then tackle this area with warm water and soap. Make sure to do this regularly do dirt doesn’t get a chance to build up.
Wash Cushions and Curtains
Not an easy task, definitely one of these annoying household chores. but also needed when you have a little bit more time on your hands. Make sure you check all the labels first before you do anything. Chances are some of your couch cushions or curtains might not be suitable for a machine wash. A hand wash could be a good alternative. However ff you cannot fit the cushions in the washing machine, or want to make sure it is done thoroughly, bringing them to a drycleaners might be your best option.
Wash Duvet and Pillows
If you are in the washing mood why not give everything a good go! Similar to the above, because you enthusiastically start trying to push a whole duvet in your washing machine, check the label. It firstly might not be very suited to go in the washing machine you have at home. Secondly, if it has very little space to move then it is not going to be very effective! The same goes for the pillows.
If you want to keep your pillows and duvets nice and fresh in between washes, hang them out on a nice sunny day for them to get some fresh air – it will make it feel fresher already.
Clean the Washing Machine
Is your laundry smelling very fresh and clean after it has been in for a wash? Or is it starting to smell a bit funny? As that might be a sign that your washing machine could do with a good internal clean. Luckily, this is not a very difficult thing to do so one of the least annoying household chores on this list. Simply either buy some washing machine cleaning liquid, or put baking soda or vinegar in the liquid drawer and put it on a wash with high heat. simple!
De-Scale the Bathroom
Definitely one of the most annoying household chores is trying to get rid of limescale. If you do not keep this up – even daily – it can be a real trouble to get rid of later on. Cleaning vinegar in combination with lemon could do the job – or a suited descaling cleaning product from the supermarket might do the trick too.
To avoid the huge build-up of limescale, try to make sure you dry the glass surfaces in the shower straight after you have taken a shower. This way you do not give limescale a chance to build up!
