What is it?

Etiquette, and how one behaves in a ‘polite’ society have been a subject studied and taught throughout history. Most etiquette training courses take you through personal, social, cultural, dining and business etiquette practices – ensuring you are confident and skilled in your etiquette. Learning the correct etiquette ensures avoiding offending or insulting anyone, allowing oneself to treat others how you wish to be treated. Learning how to give genuine compliments, being punctual and speaking with kindness are all part of the rules of etiquette. Surely we can all benefit from this type of training?

Who takes part?

Literally anyone, however, we find that a majority of our students embark on an etiquette training course to enhance their skills in the workplace. We train teams of people, especially front-of-house staff but what’s great is that we also get individuals on our courses who want to learn the ins and outs of etiquette. We get interest from companies that deal with HNW clients daily such as private charter jet companies, offices, banks, family offices, hedge funds, concierge services for serviced or managed apartments, and even cleaning companies where the staff clean areas for large corporations. The training truly is for everyone and anyone.

Who Provides it?

Well, you only need Google or any search engine to give you that information. However, quintessentially British, we are famed for our unrelenting politeness. Brits consider good manners and acting polite as part of their reputation, and we are renowned for it, so most people tend to look for etiquette training courses in the UK. Americans love how we speak, United Arab Emirates commonly search for British Butlers due to their refined and polite ways. The Afternoon tea served in the UK is one of the many frequented tourist experiences. Travellers love to do this and so much of the experience is the etiquette behind it. The concept of afternoon tea came to fruition after Anna who was a Duchess and close friend of Queen Victoria became hungry around 4 pm and the evening meal was at 8 pm.

What is the Purpose of it?

Learning etiquette allows us to know how to treat others with respect and how to behave in any given situation. It helps us by knowing how to read social cues and to be able to communicate effectively. This puts others at ease and builds better relationships, making people more comfortable around you. Beginning at a young age as children we are encouraged to be polite, learn good manners and respect others. It enables us to be able to mature and interact in society and be considerate of others. First impressions count and the use of good etiquette plays a part in this.  If we use correct etiquette we can ensure that our communication is clear and effective, avoiding misunderstandings and causing offence.

Are there any Disadvantages to Etiquette Training?

Depending on how the training is conveyed it could create a rigid structure. Etiquette is a suggested way of behaving and at times the meaning can be taken too far. The downside means it can involve putting rules in place to prevent changes from happening where they may be required. The training needs to give each person an understanding of learning to read the room and adapt accordingly. Students should learn to self-assess themselves and find room for improvement. This is a far better approach than telling you what to do without understanding the reasons behind it. People who take part in training often gain a vast amount of confidence just by knowing they are acting correctly when they walk into a room full of people, join a business lunch or have a job interview.

Isn’t it a bit Old-Fashioned?

Not at all, do not confuse etiquette training with a finishing school where the focus would be on social graces for the upper class. We believe that etiquette training acts as a reminder of how to behave when in society. Some blame COVID-19 and some blame Gen Z for lack of social cues, we don’t blame anything. We understand learning is a journey and something new and positive can be taken from all training. It allows many people to gain confidence in social situations and this can lead to a successful outcome, be it work or in their personal life. Shifting from online working to hybrid can leave people a little lost for words when making polite conversation. Cultural etiquette can be fun to learn and a great way of engaging with different nationalities which is hugely beneficial in today’s world.
So, we provide training in modern-day manners and traditional etiquette such as how to address a Baron or a duke and what to wear to a black tie event. If you haven’t yet read Debrett’s book of etiquette and minding manners, go and grab yourself a copy now.

Doing a training course is always a very wise and valuable investment for your CV and your career. Whether you are already in a job that you love, you want to get that little bit higher up form the position you have now, or if you are looking for a complete change of career, Housekeeping training will be worth the money.

And don’t be put off by the idea that Housekeeping training would take months, or will be completely unaffordable. There are training courses that will only last a weekend or a couple of days, so you could plan them over your days off so you would miss any time off work!

Good housekeeping training will be suitable for you to go work in all types of private households, from family homes to large estates and palaces. It will also give you excellent knowledge if you want to work in the hotel industry.

So what should you look for in housekeeping training?

What to look for in Housekeeping training

When looking for a training provider, be critical and ask them lots of questions. They should be able to tell you about the modules they will be teaching you, the venues, and the trainers they have. Also ask how many people would be in a group. It makes quite the difference if you are in a small group with lots of attention from the trainer, or in a large conference hall where you would not even have the chance to speak to the trainer once.

You can talk for hours, and days about the techniques of removing stains, how to organise a specific room or how to pack and unpack a suitcase. But up until you have actually done it, you will have no idea what it actually is like! A good housekeeping course will have a lot of practical elements. You should be expected to get stuck in and learn as you do. When you will have to do this for your new job, you can confidently say you have done it before and you use tried and tested methods.

Who should do Housekeeping training?

Looking to become a Housekeeper

It does not matter what career or background you come from. You will have decided you want to become a housekeeper, or at least discover if you would like and enjoy it. Doing a housekeeping training course is perfect. Not only will it take you through absolutely all aspects of housekeeping, but you will also learn all the invaluable skills to become a good housekeeper. Doing a course will also give you a very good idea of what it would be like to do this job.

Would you enjoy it? Do you think you can do it? Being a housekeeper can be a physically demanding role and sometimes you do not realise it until you actually do it. So having a couple of days of training will definitely tell you. Finally, as you start applying for housekeeping jobs it would look great on your CV that you have done a training course. It gives your future employer confidence that you have a certain level of skill set. Also shows you are passionate about this career and willing to invest in it.

Already working as a Housekeeper

You might have been working as a housekeeper for a long time, and are looking to update your skills. Sometimes, especially when working for one household or the same family, you get into a certain routine. If you start working for someone else, or the family change house, get new furniture, etc, they might require new or different things. Perhaps they have materials or equipment you are unfamiliar with. Doing a training course will keep you up to date on your skills and could give you a newfound motivation and passion for the role!

Another option, by doing the training, is that your job has the potential to move up to a Head Housekeeping role. After a course, you might feel much more confident to teach new or other staff members in the household and this could become part of your job! Finally, if you are looking to find a new role that might have more responsibilities or might be higher up, a training course again shows commitment and skillset.

Not a housekeeper? – Still do the training!

Even non-housekeepers can find enormous value in doing a housekeeping course. Anyone who works in hotels or private households or resorts of any kind will benefit significantly from understanding all the different facets of housekeeping, and how everything needs to be done. There is so much more to it than just cleaning a space! You could be a butler, a nanny, a house manager or a PA. Working with, alongside or managing housekeepers. It is vital to know what the standards should be, and how things should be executed. You can guide and show the people who are working in the housekeeping department. And there might also be the odd occasion when a housekeeper is ill, and you will have to step in. If you have done your training, there will be no surprises for you. You will be able to step in and keep everything running smoothly.

At Polo & Tweed we run regular Housekeeping training courses, as well as training in situ, open to all backgrounds, skills and abilities. Why not get in touch here to find out more and get yourself booked in?

Are you considering online training? Online training courses are a great way to boost your CV, gain knowledge and update your skills. In the last couple of years, doing training and courses online has become a much more popular option. There any many benefits to doing online training courses. It is a very flexible way of training, in the way that you could be anywhere in the world. But also in the way of you controlling the timeline of the course. Some have their doubts about online training, though. Do you worry if online training is very time-consuming? Time to find out!

What is Online Training?

Online training has been around for quite some time, however. It has gained popularity in the last couple of years, and what has helped with that is updated technology. Training courses can now be offered more extensively, and professionally. Whereas previously a training course might have just been documents of text to read and learn. Nowadays, audio, video and interactive elements are incorporated into online training courses. This will give you a much more detailed, elaborate online training experience. Much closer to the experience of in-person training, too!

It has also allowed for more sectors to offer their training courses in online formats. Whereas previously they might have not been able to transform their training to online platforms, audio and video have allowed pretty much every sector to be able to offer online courses.

And there is so much you can learn in an online training course. Except for the social interaction with fellow students perhaps, there is very little difference to an in-person training course. With good internet connections, training and video formats are used to showcase any practical skills that need to be taught.

A good online training course will give you a balanced combination of theory and practical skills. You might have to complete assignments and tests. Or when it comes to showcasing your nearly learned practical skills, you might have to show these on video. So that trainers can grade, and give tips on how to improve.

The great thing about online training is that it can be done anywhere.  Without you leaving your house, you can now access so many different types of training courses. In most cases, it is more affordable than in-person training. These are just some of the many positives of online training courses.

Is Online Training Very Time-Consuming?

Some people are worried about the practicality of online training. Will it be difficult to follow? What if you are not very skilled in the online, IT department? Will it take a long time to complete a course? The short answer to that is no. However, it depends on how you want to do the course.

Flexibility of Time

The beauty of online training is that it gives you flexibility. Whereas with an in-person training course, you’d have to stick to the set days planned for the training. Which is likely to be several days in a row, potentially over a weekend. not having the flexibility to decide when to complete your training, can be seen as time-consuming. So in this case, it is not the online training, but the in-person training that would be time-consuming. With online training, you decide when you want to start your course. So you can plan it in at a time when you know you will have time to focus, and complete. Most course providers will give you at least several months to complete a course. This way you have even more time to get all the knowledge, and the certificate, you want to achieve and receive.

No Travel

Another way you will actually save time with online training, is that it cuts out any travel time. You can do online training wherever you are, as long as you have an internet connection and a laptop or computer. So it means you can fit in a bit of study and training time on an evening after work, for example. Or when you have a day off, you can decide do to an hour or two of studying. So again, instead of online training being time-consuming, it will save you time!

Speed of the Course

Finally, you might worry that it will take you a long time to get through the online modules. Honestly, online training courses are set up so well nowadays, that it will not take long at all to familiarise yourself with how it works. If you can navigate through sending emails and signing up for the course online, you will be able to do the course, with ease!

How Can You Get Started?

Do you still think online training is time-consuming? Or do you now think it might be the right option for you? Polo & Tweed might have the right courses you are looking for! We have an extensive online training academy, with courses suited for everyone. We only work with the absolute best trainers in the industry who have dedicated their many years of experience and skill to the students, to develop and deliver on the best courses in the industry. Whether you are a self-employed professional in the domestic service industry looking to upgrade your CV and skillset, an employed professional looking to get higher up in the ranks of your current job, or in charge of managing your own staff, undertaking some form of domestic staff training can be a very valuable investment. Here are the 10 questions to ask a domestic staff training provider.

Why Invest in Domestic Staff Training for Professionals

The domestic service industry is unlike any other and it’s constantly subject to movement and change. As a professional in this industry, if you want to stay at the top of your game or grow within the job, you will have to keep up with the fast moving pace of the industry, the changes in culture, demands and requests.

Domestic staff training can open doors for you in the way of getting into higher-end positions in larger professional estates, yachts and palaces. It can also get you higher up within your current job – moving into managing a team or even the full household.

Why Invest in Domestic Training for your Staff

Domestic staff training can fix problems such as a shortage of needed skills. You might have a lovely team of housekeepers who you trust and fit well within the family household, but they might lack a certain skill set. Putting them on a specific training course can fix this instantly, focusing on exactly the skills that need brushing upon, or learning completely new ones.

Besides learning practical skills, domestic staff training is also a great way to reinforce or create a new sense of teamwork that might be lacking. There might be a few members of the team who have settled in well, but newer employees are still trying to find their feet, leading to disconnection within the team and its synergy.

Putting the whole team on a domestic staff training course where things like hierarchy, leadership, teamwork, management and planning are being practised, can greatly benefit the efficiency and productivity of the individuals as well as the team as a whole.

How to Choose the Best Domestic Staff Training Provider

There are many different domestic training providers out there, with more popping up as the industry grows. It can sometimes be difficult selecting and recognizing the good from the bad and finding exactly the right domestic staff training suited for you. We have provided a list of 10 questions to ask a domestic staff training provider which will hopefully help you in selecting the right one for you or your team.

  1. Group size

Ask what the maximum size of the group will be and what the trainer/student ratio is. In a group course, there should not be more than 8 to 10 people per trainer, especially because training in the domestic service requires a lot of detail and fine tuning. A larger class than this would simply mean that the trainer would not have sufficient time during the course to give everyone enough feedback and attention to ensure the material and skills are being absorbed properly.

  2. Ability to tailor a course

Sometimes it might be difficult to know exactly what type of training you need. A good training provider should be able to help and advise you while setting up the training. They should be able to give you examples of modules and subjects to choose from, and if you are indeed doing a private course, there should be options to ‘pick and mix’ subjects. You might already have a vast amount of knowledge on butler service, for example, but know nothing about American, synchronised or Russian service. In this instance, you could discuss this with your (potential) training provider to create a course suited exactly for you, rather than wasting time and money on modules that are not relevant to you or your team.

  3. Background of the trainers

The trainer is a vital part of any course and you should absolutely ask about what type of trainers the institute has to make sure they are suitable and knowledgeable enough to provide the training. You can ask about their background, CV or summary of their experiences to put your mind at ease and find the perfect match.

  4. Location/Venue

Most good domestic staff training providers should be able to send their trainers to your venue to train staff in-situ. There are a lot of benefits to this – staff can learn with exactly the situations and equipment they would be using during their day to day job. If you are looking for a course where a venue is provided, do ask about the type of venue and think about how easy it is to get to, if there is a possibility of staying overnight, and what type of props they provide for practical training.

  5. Reviews from previous students

Do ask for reviews from previous students. Most providers will have these in a section on their website but if not, see if they can provide you with some. You can sometimes also find these on the company’s Facebook and Google pages. Keep in mind that every experience can be different, but to get a rough overview, reviews can be helpful.

  6. Practical and theory

Ask how the course is split up – is it only theory being discussed whilst sitting in a classroom? As for most subjects relevant for the domestic service industry, the theory is nowhere near as important as the practical skills.

  7. Certifications

Does the training provider issue certifications after the course? Are they internationally recognised? Is there perhaps any accreditation that comes with the certification?

  8. Cancellation periods

Any booking should come with a cancellation or refund period – ask for the terms & conditions so that everything is clear beforehand.

  9. Module handbooks/handouts

Do the students get any information on paper, or perhaps a handbook, notes or a PowerPoint presentation? These things are valuable to prepare for, especially after the completion of the training. A training day or weekend can be quite overwhelming, especially if lots of new material is covered, so having a handbook to reference afterwards can make sure that no information goes missing.

  10. Exams / Assessments

What is the assessment process? Are these theory, practical, or a combination? From a learning outcome perspective, having both a theory and a practical exam can be extremely valuable. To check on progress and make sure things that might not have been taken in or understood completely, can be focused on again.

Do you feel these 10 questions to ask a domestic staff training provider helped? At Polo & Tweed, we are proud to offer silver service courses, housekeeping, butler, house and estate management and yacht training of the highest standard.  If you’d like to know more about our small open courses or our private courses, then please do have a look here, or drop us a line. If you are considering spending some money on a training course, you should definitely consider online training options too. Whatever type, of course, you are looking for, it is likely an online version of it will be available. And especially if you are a bit tighter on budget, online training courses can provide excellent, budget-friendly options. But does online training give you value for money? With the right training provider, and right expectations, absolutely!

What Is Online Training?

To find out if online training gives value for money, let’s look a little more first at what exactly online training is. Online training courses have been around for a long time. But in the last couple of years, training schools and companies have focused more and more on developing online training platforms. So that students from all over the world can participate in the courses they have to offer.LaptopHome

And it doesn’t only work in favour of the training providers. Online training has many benefits for the students too. Firstly, similarly, now courses from all over the world are available to you as a student. So wherever you are, you can get a qualification from an institution of choice. This can vary from extensive degrees to one-day qualifications or certificates, and everything in between.

No More Travel

It gives a lot more freedom to the student too. You no longer have to travel or commute to a training course. Nor do you have to take any specific days off to attend a course. All of this can be time and cost-effective. So when looking at whether online training gives value for money, this can be a first good argument. You are likely to save money by doing online training. Most (not all!) online training courses will be cheaper than their in-person variant. Besides that, you will save money on not having to travel, not having to stay overnight, and any other cost you could have from taking part in a face to face training course.

Time Is Money

Another way why online training could give value for money is that you will be more time-efficient. And that can be money-saving, or indeed, give you value for money. If you ever have participated in an in-person training course, you will know how time-consuming this can be. Normally these courses will run for at least one full day, or several days. Meaning that it is likely you will have to take time off work or cancel a shift. So instantly, you could lose out on income by doing a training course.

Now, look at what it would mean to do a training course online. Firstly, you can decide when to start the training. So you would simply not schedule this in your busiest period at work, or in your private life. As you will probably know it will be extremely challenging to combine. And would you still be able to get the most out of the course if you are tired and overworked?

The great thing about online training is that you are in charge of the timeline. You can start the course whenever you want. So you can schedule it into your time when it is convenient for you. When you know you will be able to focus for a couple of days, or weeks, to really learn everything the training has to offer. Most online courses will give you several months too, to complete the course. Which is likely much more time than you need. What that does, is indeed again giving you more flexibility. You can start, pause and restart the course according to your schedule and needs!

What Are Your Expectations?

So does online training give value for money? It does mostly depend on your expectations, and what you want from a training. Some people enjoy the social aspect of doing training courses. Meeting and getting to know new, like-minded people. It could even be seen as a networking opportunity for some. If this is the case, online training might not be suited for you. Online training will mostly be done individually, without much, or any group participation at all.

If you, however, would like to have a cost-effective and flexible way to get a new qualification or training course, then it will definitely give you value for money. When you do an online training course with a reputable training provider, you will get a good quality education and certificate. You will likely learn many new skills that you will be able to apply in your work or everyday life. As well as it looking good on your CV, too.

And by choosing to book e-learning training, they can get started straight away. Find out here why you should book e-learning training for your staff.

What Are E-Learning Training Courses

If you are considering booking an e-learning training course for your staff, you might want to first fully understand what that means. You might be familiar with in-person training courses. Where you would, for example, send your staff to a training weekend in a group. Another option is for a trainer to come to your property to provide tailor-made training.

E-learning can offer a great alternative to in-person training. Because perhaps in-person training is not available, or possible. It can also be much easier to schedule into a working week. You do not have to find time off to send your staff on a training course, on set dates. With e-learning, you simply pick and choose when you want your staff to start the training. It offers much flexibility. And can therefore also be spread out over more days, weeks, and sometimes even months too, where needed.

What To Expect From an Online Course

Simply put, an e-learning training course is exactly the same as an in-person training course. However, what makes it e-learning, is that this training is fully created to be taught online. Meaning that there is no need to sit in a classroom. Or do any type of face to face training. Coffee and Online Training

E-learning courses are by no means new. But in the last couple of years, many training providers are now offering e-learning versions of their training courses too. Technology has developed a lot in the last couple of years too, with regards to online platforms. Meaning there are not only more options, but they are also in general better and easier access for more people.

And with improved online platforms too, training courses that would normally more practical based can now be cone online too. Often, this is done with the help of video’s incorporated into e-learning courses. This way students can still view all the new skills and practice accordingly too.

Why Invest In Training

Training for your staff, in general, is an important thing to invest in. There are many different reasons why people want their staff to undergo training.

Staff Issues – New Team Member

You do not only have to book training courses when there are issues with your staff. Although that can be a very good first reason already. Perhaps you have a new member of staff joining a team. Even though they might be experienced in other households, they still need to be able to work to your and the team’s standard. So by putting your new member of staff through a training course of choice, can really help. This way you ensure that the new staff member has the level of knowledge and newly learned skills, you want them to bring to the job. It can also be really helpful to the staff member themselves, as they will instantly understand what is expected of them too.

Teach New Skills

Another great reason why you should invest in training for your staff is if you want them to learn and apply new skills. This can work in many different ways. And especially in dual roles. For example, you might have a housekeeper/cook. Who might be amazing at cooking, but need finetuning in the housekeeping department. The same goes for any other dual role. It can often be tricky to find a member of staff who is very good in two different disciplines. So investing in training can really be of enormous help.

Potential Promotions

If you are expanding your staff, it might be worth having one of the staff members take a management training course. This is where they will learn how to be in charge of other members of staff. And everything that comes with it. From hiring and firing to budgets, to name a few. If one of your staff members is going to take on a more managerial role – however small. Then investing in some training for them will be very beneficial. It might not be a role or task they have ever done before. Or comfortable with. By providing training, you instantly clarify expectations and set the standards right. For your new management staff, and the rest of the domestic staff too!

Have you ever considered online training? If you are looking to boost your CV, it can be an excellent investment to make. There are many benefits to online training. You will be able to access courses from all over the world. You will likely save money, as you do not have to travel to a venue. And you can decide when to fit the training into your schedule. Finally, it is an excellent way to learn new skills. So let’s have a look into that – how you can learn new skills via online training.

What Is Online Training?

When looking at how to learn new skills via online training, let’s first have a look at what exactly online training is. If you have never done any online training courses before, you might not be able to imagine what an online training course would be like.

But over the last couple of years, online training and e-learning courses have really gained momentum. Many, if not most training providers do now offer some form of online training too. Whether that is a short course, or a complete online qualification or certification. Modern-day technology and clever online training platforms have enabled the training and education industry to offer similar, high-quality content, in an online version.

This means that online training would simply be a course, study or training you might normally take face to face. In a group, or private, in-person setup. An online course is fully based on the internet. So all you would need is an internet connection and a laptop or computer. There you would be able to follow all the course material you would normally do too. You might read course material, follow PowerPoint presentations. Or even watch video’s and listen to audio recordings. There will probably be tests or assignments too, as part of your course. For you to be able to test your knowledge and understanding of the course material. And to see if you would pass the course!

The Benefits From Online Training

Before you can understand how to learn new skills via online training, let’s first look at the benefits. And there are plenty! Firstly, you really do not have to be a technical expert to be able to do online training. The training platforms nowadays are very simple and easy to follow. If you can send an email, you will probably be able to follow and complete online training! Online training gives you an opportunity to learn new skills, from the comfort of your own home! It means that you no longer have to travel to go to a training venue. This can be expensive, and time-consuming.

It also means that now, you will be able to take online courses from training providers all over the world. If you have always wanted a certification from a certain training provider, but you could never travel there. Now is your chance! You do not even have to leave your house. So the opportunities for more, and more varied training courses, have increased because of online training too.

Finally, you will be able to fit in online training around your busy life and schedule. Cannot do weekends? Then simply do not do your online training at weekends! It does not matter when you do your online course. As long as you finish it within the time that has been set by the provider. But this is normally quite a while, sometimes even several months. This means that you can start your training whenever you want. Pause it when needs be. And restart it to complete. All whilst working around your job, and life. This means you would not have to take any days off, for example, to follow training. This can often be a difficulty when doing an in-person training course. But online training will give you all the flexibility you need to get the qualifications you are after.

How To Learn New Skills Via Online Training

How do you practically learn new skills via online training? It’s actually quite simple! You might think that online training is only suited for theory-heavy courses. But there are great ways how you can now learn practical skills, via online learning platforms too.

Lots of platforms now use video and audio footage to showcase the skills to you. You will be able to see, learn and understand the skill. And then practise it yourself! You will likely be asked to make a video of you practising your newly learned skill. This will then be uploaded into the online training platform. The trainers will then be able to watch this, review this and give you tips. Just like you would get in an in-person training course!

This way you will know what you did right, and what you still need to work on. You will work your way through the courses like this. Learning new skills as you go on. Applying the skills, and practising them too. So that by the end, you will have practised a lot, knowing you can use these skills with confidence!

Did you know you can now do house management training online as well? If you are looking to start house management training, you really should consider an online e-learning version. You might not be too sure about online training in general. Or how it could practically work to do a house management training course completely from your computer.  You might be sceptical or surprised to hear that online house management training actually works. The combination of well-designed courses, good technology and the best training providers, has really elevated the e-learning training market. And this means that you will learn just as much as you would have at an in-person house management training course!

What Is Online House Management Training?

To understand why online house management training actually works, let’s have a look at what it actually is. Let’s keep this very straight forward. Online house management training is exactly like an in-person house management training course. The only difference is that you will not go to a venue to take the training from a real-life trainer. You will instead be following all the course material via an online learning platform, from your laptop or computer. You will get the same or at least very similar training content. Only now online.

House management is an all-encompassing subject. And very suited for an online training course setup. So that means that all the modules you would normally find at a face to face house management course, you will find at its e-learning variant. By it becoming an online course, it does not take any of its content away. As you would in an in-person setting, you will work your way through the modules. Only now you will do this independently. So instead of following the pace that the trainer has set, you will now set your own pace using the online platform. There will be material for you to read, and videos to watch, and perhaps audio files too.

The Benefits Of Online House Management Training

There are a lot of benefits to doing an online training course. Instead of attending in-person training. Even if you have never done any online trying before, it is worth considering its benefits. And see what may weigh heavier for you!

You Control The Time

A first reason why online house management training actually works is the fact that you are in control of the timeline. How long you take to complete the course, when you start, when you take a break. Make sure you know how long you are allowed to do the online course. Most training providers will give you several months to complete! So this gives you a lot of freedom in comparison to face to face training. Because there you have to stick to the course dates that are scheduled. You cannot pause the training halfway, and pick it up another time.

Simply put, if you are a busy person, you will be able to fit online training into your schedule a lot easier, than in-person training. You will also be able to take a little longer to complete it. Which could mean that you for example do not have to take time off to do a training course. And you can go back to modules you did not fully understand, and really make sure you have all boxes ticked.

Travel & Location

Location is a second important argument to consider online training. A great benefit of online training is that you can take any course, anywhere. So all of a sudden any training course from training providers all over the world will be available to you. If you have ever wanted to do a training course from an institute on the other side of the world, now is your chance.

But the fact that you can do online training anywhere has practical benefits too. Travel is time-consuming and expensive. Taking time out for training can be tricky already. Let along adding travel time, and overnight stays. With online training, you no longer have to only consider training programmes near you. You can ‘go’ anywhere in the world. From the comfort of your own home!

Cost of Training

Finally, simply put, online training will probably save you quite a bit of money! Firstly because in general, the actual cost of the course will likely be cheaper than in-person training. But as we briefly touched upon above already, you will probably save in more ways than just the course fees. You will not have to spend money on travelling to the venue. Which can already make a big difference. Were you planning on taking training overseas? Then that is already a large chunk of money. Let alone all the other costs that could come with travel. Overnight stays you would have to pay for. Dinners, and food during your travel. And don’t forget the loss of income you may have from not being able to go to work! So all in all, online training will be a lot more cost-effective. Just another reason why online house management training actually works!

Are you considering signing up for an online e-learning course? If it is the first time you have ever done an online e-learning course, it can be difficult to know if it is for you. Will you find an online e-learning course hard? Or will it be right for you? The good thing is, online training really can be right for everybody. Follow these tips below to make the best out of any online e-learning course. And you will not find it hard at all to get through any online training!

Discipline

A first way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to get disciplined. You will need this discipline, as you are now in charge of the course.

During in-person training, you simply follow the training as set out by your instructor or trainer. You will be guided through the modules. Practise when the trainer tells you to. And complete assessments accordingly. All this is different when you do an online e-learning course. You will need to motivate yourself. Stay focused. And not get distracted. To complete the course, and get the most out of it.

Now, this does not have to be a negative thing. Everyone can get disciplined with the right preparation and mindset. Know why you are doing this online training course. Did your employer ask you to do it? Then you want to definitely do well! Are you doing this in the hope of finding a better or new job? Then the course can mean a better future! Whatever your reason is for doing online training, let it be your focus. And your motivation. Stay disciplined, and think about the positive outcomes this completed course can have for you!

Be Organised

A second way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to be organised. This will help you with discipline, too. As mentioned previously, there will be no trainer there to keep you focused. Or to organise the course for you. So put the following things in place to be organised, and you will not find an online e-learning course hard at all!

Schedule In Study Time

What can be really helpful, is to schedule in blocks of study time. You can do this for the week, for the month, or even the full duration of the course. Simply mark out a block in your diary for when you will be studying. This will help you to not book any other appointments at that time. But it will also help you to get into a routine. Once you see the block in your diary, you know that is what you will be doing. Rather than last minute trying to fit it into your day.

Have A Dedicated Study Space

Where you study, can have a big influence on how hard you find the online e-learning course, too. Do you get easily distracted? Then make sure to not study in a busy cafe, for example. Or in any other space where there will be lots of other people. And make sure to create a designated study space. This does not mean you have to go spend lots of money on a fancy desk. But it does mean having an area, however small, that is specifically for work and study. Somewhere you can sit comfortably but actively. Not on a couch or on your bed, for example. Even if it is a small corner of your table, that will be enough.

Switch Off Distractions

Another way to not find your online e-learning course hard is to switch off any distractions. Can you switch your phone off during the time you study? And the television that might be on in the background? If you would do an in-person course, you would not have your phone next to you either! We get so used to doing so many things at the same time. But it can really limit productivity. So when you study, just do that. And leave any other tasks, or distractions, for after study hours.

Set Realistic Timelines

Finally, a final important way to make the most out of an online e-learning course is to be realistic in the timelines you are setting for yourself. Are your really going to be able to finish this course in two days? And even if you physically would be able to fit all that time in. Did you really learn enough from it? Give yourself enough time, but also don’t leave too many gaps. You will get the most out of a course if you consistently stick to it for a number of days or weeks.

The great thing about online courses is that you can schedule in your own time. So you can perfectly work it around your busy schedule. But once you start the course, you do not want to lose momentum. Try not to leave too many long gaps between training sessions. As it might just result in you having to go back over previously completed modules. As you can’t remember them anymore!

Finally, make sure the blocks you schedule for training are realistic. Will you really still be able to focus after 6 hours of non-stop training behind your computer? Equally so, just scheduling in 30 minutes will not get you anywhere either. You need at least an hour, or more, to fully get into the swing of the course.

Of course, on some days you might be able to do more than others. But make sure you schedule your time cleverly, so you can make the most out of our e-learning course.
